Anthropic and Due Diligence
Round 5: Email appeal to national and EU law enforcement to act against unlawful conduct.
Dear Sir Madam
Ever since 8 march 2026, I have been trying desperately to engage the professional attention of law enforcement across 3 jurisdictions; two here in Italy, and one in the EU; please note email addresses above for more information.
I have brought receipts, perhaps the following might bring your law enforcement instincts into play.
DUE DILIGENCE
The following is based on due diligence of my accounts, Apple’s records, and Anthropic’s invoicing. This system does not support images. However, I have all the original documents that I am replicating below, and can provide them upon request.
Anthropic/Claude subscription started. -€22.00 - 20 Feb 2026
A ‘Prepaid extra usage, Individual plan’, started - 4 March 2026 (15 days; 1/2 contract duration)
- 4 March 2026 @ 17:58 - €6.10 - R7EXQONR-001 - Next charge 00:42 minutes later
- 4 March 2026 @ 18:40 - €6.10 - R7EXQONR-002 - Next charge 00:00 minutes later
- 4 March 2026 @ 18:40 - €12.76 - R7EXQONR-003 - Next charge 12:46 minutes later
- 4 March 2026 @ 5 March 2026 07:26 - €12.97 - R7EXQONR-004 - Next charge 02:13 minutes later
- 5 March 2026 @ 10:07 - €12.77 - R7EXQONR-005 - Next charge 02:33 minutes later
- 5 March 2026 @ 14:30 - €12.25 - R7EXQONR-006 - Next charge 03:28 minutes later
- 5 Mar 2026 @16:28 - Subscription cancelled- Next charge 00:30 minutes AFTER CANCELLATION
- 5 Mar 2026 @ 17:58 - €12.20 - R7EXQONR- 007
- CARD BLOCKED
- 5 March 2026 at 20:24:35 GMT+1: - Apple Account, billing change
Apple’s records claim the I cancelled 4 hours after I actually cancelled, I assume to provide cover for the illegal charge made by Anthropic. Whilst it’s good to see companies playing nicely together to defraud the client, I am puzzled why they would risk their integrity over €13. Oh! I forget they haven’t got any.
Sub-total in ad hoc charges -€87.35
Subscription fee - €22.00 - till 5 Mar’26, service at 15 hrs/day/wk
Total - €109.35 - post CARD BLOCK down to 5 hrs/wk
The table above also demonstrates the random nature of the charging in both amounts and frequencies, varying from €6 to €12 and 0 secs to 12 hrs respectively.
The basis for the daily/weekly metering within the base subscription plan counts down the time remaining according to an algorithm that is not shared with the subscriber.
What precisely the progress bar is measuring is not stated;;
CPU cycles, API tokens, memory, net bandwidth; some combination?
They don’t say; the service is degraded by a ‘wet finger’ in the financial ‘air’ approach that ‘feels’ right.

The “Prepaid extra usage, Individual plan” or ”Remora rate” uses an exponentially greater calculus to arrive at over 130.1 times more than base subscription;
€3.85 / €0.03 = 130.1 approx
And, this is without factoring in the allowance of the base subscription contract.
I made a formal complaint on 7 March 2026 regarding the charges applied after cancellation. By law, and please, do leap in and correct me, the cancellation of my account ends the commercial relationship. Charges after that point are unlawful.
I made this point in the challenge to Anthropic and informed them of my escalation to the relevant law enforcement agencies in Italy, i.e, yourselves; as you will see from the attached reproduction of the original mails (in my possession).
They were so very impressed by my reported escalation path, they celebrated by reducing my access window to 5 hrs/wk from 15 hrs/day/wk.
And, I truly do have you, or at least your reputation to thank for this gift of grace.
I don’t know if you ignore successive requests for law enforcement during the commission of a law enforceable crime on the grounds of indifference or sheer volume of work. And, I’m not sure which is worse.
Ah, well! Watch this space….
The email chain below starts at the bottom of the post with the first email from me cancelling the subscription; start there and work up to see AI logic at work. Mind like a steel trap.
The following is a summary in a more logical flow down layout.

Formal Demand: Refund of Unauthorised Post-Cancellation Charge
To Anthropic PBC,
I am writing to demand the immediate refund of a charge applied to my payment card after I had cancelled my Claude subscription.
The facts are as follows: I held a paid subscription to Claude (claude.ai). I cancelled that subscription.
Subsequent to confirmed cancellation, Anthropic applied a further charge to my card described as a usage top-up.
I did not authorise any charge after cancellation.
I had no prior notice that such a charge was pending. No opportunity was given to decline it.
LEGAL POSITION
A charge applied after cancellation of a subscription is, on its face, an unauthorised transaction.
There is no valid contractual basis for it: the contract was terminated.
If Anthropic contends that a surviving contractual term permitted this charge, I require that term to be identified and produced in full.
A term that was not brought to my attention at the point of subscription, and is not expressed in plain language, is potentially void under EU Directive 93/13/EEC on unfair contract terms and the Italian Codice del Consumo.
I am an EU-resident consumer based in Italy. EU consumer protection law applies to this transaction regardless of any jurisdiction clause in Anthropic’s terms of service purporting to apply California law.
DEMAND
I require, within 14 days of the date of this letter:
1. Full refund of the post-cancellation charge to my original payment method;
2. Written confirmation that no further charges will be applied to my card;
3. If Anthropic asserts a contractual basis for the charge, the specific term relied upon, in full.
Failure to respond within 14 days, or refusal of this demand, will result in a formal complaint to the Autorità Garante della Concorrenza e del Mercato (AGCM) and the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali, both of whom have jurisdiction over Anthropic’s billing practices in respect of EU consumers.
I retain all rights.
Yours faithfully,

WHEN are you going to address this?
Your failure to respond in a prompt and timely manner is sufficient for my bank to start challenging the pending payments.
That’s the next step if this silence continues
You have stolen another 26 from me for an additional 10 minutes
I didn’t design your system, but you charge me for the inefficiencies of your design

Re: Unauthorised recurring top-up charges — refund request.
You just stole another 13 after I cancelled my subscription
Where is the extra payment system hidden?
Make it real easy to access and impossible to find to switch off
Another dirty little trick that’s going into the post

€22 + €78 = €100 in two days versus €100 for five months unlimited.
In two days I have paid the equivalent of five months of your unlimited plan.
This is not a usage charge;
It’s a trap, conducted in the most opaque manner. At no point did your system inform me of what I’m getting each time it randomly chose to Sting me again and again——————————————————————————————————————————On 5 Mar 2026, at 16:31, Fin AI Agent from Anthropic <support@mail.anthropic.com> wrote:

Hi, Anthropic
I’ve listed the six charges of €12.xx that you have made on top of my paid subscription of 22 per month.
I kept encountering your blocks on my use and there was a meter on my interface which showed the daily and weekly limits.
So, I decided to leverage your additional charges on top.
Boy, do I regret that.
Your meter disappeared.
And it was open season on my account based on a completely invisible criteria for measuring.
I went from visible usage to blank cheque with no clear warning.
And, any attempt to unravel it through your online systems is a maze to defy the devil. Intentional no doubt.
On top of that when I try to upload 1 single jpg image, I’m hitting limits.
Your billing tactics are deliberately opaque and disingenuous.
I have cancelled my subscription. I came as refugee from dreadful ChatGPT, but, by god, they’re better than this, and that’s after they’ve been captured by the Pentagon.
Your billing practices are utterly despicable.
Regards

{Note: The 4 hours between my cancellation time of 16:28 and Apple’s 4 hrs later at 20:24 is designed to give cover to the fraudulent charge applied after cancellation.
Just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean they’re not out to get you. Every provider of service or product colludes with each to capture your ‘money’ that is held captive on their systems. Makes a mockery of ownership}.
I was in an utter fury when I cancelled at the same time as I was berating the artificial idiot. The times were damn simultaneous.
Regards
